Woohoo! Go Gleniti! Last night our Year 7 Aoraki Maths team won the Year 7 competition. The team of Matthew Armstrong, Henry Jorgenson, Emma Fitzgerald and Emily Phimister won with a highly competitive 16 points beating Waihi A and Ashburton Intermediate into second and third. Well done team!!

To top off an already very successful night our Year 8 team (Yashvi Shah, Tobias Overbeeke, Cooper Phillips and Holly Turner) placed a very credible 5th. Great effort all round.

Wow! Footpath Frenzy was huge last week. We had over 40 children walking with us. Come along and walk to school with me this Friday as well! We’ll be meeting at the corner of Mountain View Road and Murchison Drive just before 8:30am. We’ll be walking along Murchison drive on to Spring Road. This is the perfect way to encourage safe walking to school.

Parent Interviews for our Yr 3-8 families are all set to run next week, Wednesday and Thursday of week 4 (August 14 and 15). Families can book their interview times by following the link https://www.schoolinterviews.co.nz/code?code=v5rjm

We will be closing the school early on the Wednesday from 2:00pm. As we’ve done in the past we will provide supervision to help out those families who need it due to the early closing. Please let the office know if you would like your child/ren to be supervised.

Congratulations to all those children who were awarded Principal Awards last Friday. Nice work everyone!

Footpath Frenzy is on again this week, we had about 30 children walking with us last week. Come along and walk to school with me! We’ll be meeting at the corner of Mountain View Road and Wai-iti Road just before 8:30am. This is the perfect way to encourage safe walking to school.

Our cover stars this week are our Footpath Frenzy team from last week!

Congratulations to Annalise Evans who has recently done so well in Gymnastics Aerobics Competitions. She received two 1st placings at the Canterbury Champs and two 2nd placings in the Auckland Champs. Wow! Great work Annalise!

Keep an eye out for the Parent Interview Code that we will be releasing early next week via Facebook and Txt. Parent Interviews are due on Wednesday and Thursday of week 4 (August 14 and 15). We will close the school early on the Wednesday from 2:00pm. As we’ve done in the past we will provide supervision to help out those families who need it due to the early closing.

Just a gentle reminder about Snapchat, Facebook, Instagram and all of the other social media sites available. We do spend a lot of time at school unfortunately working through problems and issues that have arisen outside of school on these sites. Research has shown that children are particularly vulnerable to all sorts of unwanted behaviours on these sites. This is probably why most sites put a 13 year old age limit on themselves. As you will all be aware though there are many ways to get around this. At best these sites enable people to share the highlight reels of their lives and at worse enable people to be nasty, rude, bully like and aggressive all from the safety of their homes. This isn’t good for anyone. Please be vigilant and positive about how your children use social media. So we recommend that at home you set boundaries and build good habits so that we can all be safe on line.

Congratulations to all those children who were awarded Principal awards last Friday. Nice work everyone!

Gleniti Newsletter 24th July, 2019

Welcome back everyone. I trust that you’ve all had a restful and safe break away. From my point of view, it’s great to be back at Gleniti School! I’d like to thank everyone who made Term Two such a success during my term away and in particular Lindsay Robertson who stepped in as Acting Principal. It sounds like Term Two was jam packed with goodness!

Term Three now lies ahead of us! Where has the year gone? Features of this term include Parent Interviews for our Yr 3-8 classes during Week 4, The Book Fair and Maths week!

Term 3 has traditionally been Footpath Frenzy term and this term is no different. We’ll be kicking off Footpath Frenzy this coming Friday. Come along and walk to school with me! We’ll be meeting at the corner of Hunter Hills Drive and Pages Road just before 8:30am. This is the perfect way to encourage safe walking to school.

Our cover stars this week are our newbies! The term has begun with a school roll of 386 students. We‘d like to welcome everyone who is new to school and in particular Jane Ferguson, who begins with us as our new Teacher Aide.

It’s this time of the year that I like to remind Parents/Whanau to be extra vigilant when dropping off and picking up their children from school. The dark, dreary winter months can cause all sorts of safety concerns. Please remember to drop your children off at the appropriate spots – I’ve seen a few cars already this week choosing to pickup or drop off right at the school gates and not in the Heath Street parking spots.

For those new to the school our newsletter can be found in a number of ways. Initially in the bottom of your child’s bag every Wednesday afternoon, but also on our website www.gleniti.school.nz, on our Gleniti Facebook page and on our Gleniti Skool App. This app can be downloaded from the iTunes and Google Play stores; search for Skool Loop. The newsletter can also easily be emailed to you!

Many schools of course are heading to a paperless newsletter world. I can’t help but wonder if this is also the way forward for us in the future. Keep an eye out for a survey regarding this soon.

Congratulations to Liam James and Rowan Waller who were part of the winning u15 Mid South Boys rep basketball team during the holidays. They placed first at the Mainland Tournament in Blenheim beating Canterbury in the final 74-64!
