It’s been another busy week or so at Gleniti School. Friday found us celebrating New Zealand Music Month with a gig at assembly. Joash and Henry Jorgensen joined up as Mysterious, and performed a drum and guitar original song. Then Nina Baxter sang a song that she had written. It was great to hear students so young and talented getting up and playing songs that they had created themselves. I played a couple of songs that I had written as well, but really this was a celebration of our young students creating new and exciting tunes. We’ll certainly be doing this again.

On Monday we hosted our annual Yr 5-8 Cross Country down at the Scenic Reserve. Conditions were perfect for the runners (but cold for the spectators!). A huge thank you to Nic Parmenter for organising this event. It ran (!) very smoothly indeed. Results are published later in our newsletter.

We’re looking forward to hosting the Yr 0-4 Cross Country here at school on Tuesday 5th June, straight after the Queen’s Birthday weekend.

Thank you again to everyone who participated in our School Transport Survey. We managed to receive a 77% response rate from our families. That’s a great participation result and we’re certainly looking forward to reading all the responses when they come back from the CDHB analysts team.

Charlie Williamson was the lucky student who won the amazing spot prize from Bike Barn of a brand new scooter and helmet.

Our annual Teacher Only is due this Friday. The school will be closed for Teacher Only day on Friday 1st June, just prior to the Queen’s Birthday weekend. Teacher’s will be using the day for Maths Professional Development. The school will re-open on Tuesday 5th June after the Queen’s Birthday holiday.

Congratulations to everyone who
received Principal Awards at last week’s assembly.

It was great to share with many schools and businesses across New Zealand Pink Shirt day last Friday. What an amazing array of different pinks and costumes showing our determination to be a part of the BullyfreeNZ initiative. We raised $507.50.

If you didn’t get a chance to view the Oat the Goat video, here goes the link again. This is a great resource that helps children learn the power of kindness … http://www.oatthegoat.co.nz/

Thank you to everyone who participated in our School Transport Survey. We managed to receive a 77% response rate from our families. That’s a great participation result and we’re certainly looking forward to reading all the responses when they come back from the CDHB analysts team.

At assembly this week we’ll name the spot prize winner. The prize is a SCOOTER and helmet, which has kindly been donated by the good people at Bike Barn.

The big news this week has been the arrival of our new building. How exciting! It was great to see the building arrive on the back of two trucks and then be lifted by crane into place. There are a few things that have to happen before we get to move in though; the building needs to be connected to electricity etc, and we need to build a ramp, but fingers crossed we’ll be using it before we know it!

Congratulations to everyone who received Principal Awards at last week’s assembly.

Our Yr5-8 Cross Country is all set to run next week; Mon 28th May (12.15pm-3.00pm) with the postponement day being Thurs 31st May (12.15pm-3.00pm), down at the Scenic Reserve.

Our annual Teacher Only day is just over a week away. The school will be closed for Teacher Only day on Friday 1st June, just prior to the Queen’s Birthday weekend. Teacher’s will be using the day for Maths Professional Development. The school will re-open on Tuesday 5th June after the Queen’s Birthday holiday.

This week the school is involved in the Nationwide BullyfreeNZ initiative. Classes have been talking about ways that we can all work on to achieve our goal of being a Bullyfree environment. This lends itself to conversations about behaviour as a whole, whether it be poor behaviour or positive behaviour. No doubt this will be an on-going conversation.

We shared on our Facebook page a great resource that helps children learn the power of kindness … Oat the Goat is a very useful digital storybook well worth taking a look at …. http://www.oatthegoat.co.nz/

On Friday we are encouraging children to come along dressed up in Pink … any pink will do, please don’t go to any extra expense! Nationwide it is officially called Pink Shirt Day, but we don’t mind if your children don’t have a pink shirt, any pink will do. This gold coin mufti day will see the donations going to the Mental Health Foundation of New Zealand.

This Friday is the last day of our School Transport Survey. So far we have had 163 responses to the online survey and we’ve also been running an in-class survey as well.

If you haven’t already, we’d appreciate it if you could take the time to complete a short survey about the way your children travel to and from school. The survey is anonymous, as the results are analysed by the CDHB analysts team, not within the school. However, you can also add your name for the chance to win a special spot prize! The prize is a SCOOTER and helmet, which has kindly been donated by the good people at Bike Barn.
We really appreciate your participation! Ultimately, the results will contribute to keeping our children safe.

Our cover stars this week are Sam Ollerenshaw and Kyla Botha. Sam and Kyla received the umpire of the week award last Saturday at Netball. It’s great to see Gleniti students step up to take on umpiring roles. Fabulous work girls!

Congratulations to everyone who received Principal Awards at last week’s assembly.
