Newsletter 13th November 2019

Our cover stars this week are Millie and Lilly who have been looking after our new Kea Crossing on Spring Road this week. It’s wonderful to get this finally up and running. However there are still plenty of people who choose just to cross randomly on Spring Road at any place. The new crossing has been put in specially by the Timaru District Council to provide our students with a safe crossing spot. The Kea Crossing should now be everyone’s default crossing point on Spring Road – please use it, it’s certainly the safest place to cross.

Congratulations and thanks to all those businesses who have helped out with our Yr 7-8 Work Experience programme over the last couple of weeks or so. It’s been wonderful to hear the great stories coming back from our Yr 7-8s from their experiences. We certainly can’t run a programme like this without the support of businesses and work places, so thank you for giving your time, it’s greatly appreciated.

Our school disco is all set to run this Friday night! Woohoo! It’s going to be a blast! The theme is Neon Lights and tickets can be purchased at the office and on the night.

Our Athletics sports are all ready to go next Tuesday, 19th November (pp Thursday). Hopefully we’ll get great weather! Please keep an eye out for more information about the event later in this newsletter.

Urgent help is required. Please fill in the reply slip below and return it to school tomorrow.

Congratulations to our Aoraki Caroline Bay Relay team who competed down at the Soundshell yesterday. We had over twenty runners involved in the relay event.

Congratulations to everyone who received a Principal Award during our assembly last week!

Our cover stars this week are Learning Team 1 students doing jump rope during Discovery time. Looks like they’re having a great time!

Congratulations to Phoenix Smith who placed 2nd in the South Canterbury Primary Mountain Bike Yr 5-6 competition last Wednesday. Sophie Best place 4th in her Yr 5-6 race, and Corban Sprague placed 6th in the Yr 7-8 race. Gleniti School had 12 students competing in this exciting event.

Preparation for the school disco is well under way. This will be held on Friday 15th November! This year our theme is NEON LIGHTS!

And yes, we are still on the lookout for parents to help out with our new Kea Crossing on Spring Road. We currently have three parents who have volunteered to help us in the mornings. It would be great to get at least a couple more. The Kea Crossing must have an adult supervising as it means that we will now be stopping traffic. We will be able to arrange teachers in the afternoon, but in the morning we’d really appreciate some extra support. If you are able to help out on the crossing from 8:30-8:55am on any of the days during the week please contact me stevez@gleniti.school.nz or via the Facebook page if you are able to help out. The role isn’t an onerous one. The Road Safety children do all the hard work and are trained to make the decisions. But they do need support. Please contact us.

With the news online that Timaru may have our first Measles case (to be confirmed today, or tomorrow from what I understand) it’s important that parents and whanau confirm the immunisation status of their children. If this has changed recently e.g. you have had your child immunised, then please make sure the records at school reflect this.

A huge thank you to Twohig Building, Dey’s Firewood, Artikel and Swint and Gresson Dorman and Co who have all donated money to help cover costs for the hire of the hall and sound system at the Southern Trust Events Centre. It’s great to have their support when planning our End of Year Celebration. If your business would like to help support the school then please drop me a line; stevez@gleniti.school.nz
