Children in New Zealand can start school on or after their 5th birthday, but schoool attendance is compulsary once they turn 6.
If you are living within the Gleniti School zone and you wish for your child to attend Gleniti School, we ask that you please notify the school office on 686 0082 to have your child’s details added to an expected New Entrant List. This helps us to estimate the number of students who will likely be enrolled at our school in the future.
If we have your details on file, we will call you approximately 8-12 weeks prior to your child’s 5th birthday to arrange for Enrolment forms to be completed.
New Entrant students will have a Meet the Principal Meeting 4 weeks out from their start date. At this meeting they will meet with either our Principal or a member of our Senior Management Team. Parents and the student will have an opportunity to ask any questions they may have before having a tour of the school. They will then be taken to over to the classroom to meet their class teacher.
Their teacher will then arrange three classroom visits, usually one visit per week for the three weeks leading up to their start date.
- Class Visit 1 – Discovery Time: Normally on a Wednesday from 1.30 -2.30pm. Various activities are spread through the 5 new entrant classrooms and may include activities like arts and crafts, music, mud kitchen, building and creative play. Parents are welcome to stay or leave during this session. If visiting in Terms 1 or 4, please ensure your child brings a sunhat with them.
- Class Visit 2: 2 weeks out from the start date. This will be a morning visit on any day that suits from 9.00am until 12.30pm. Children will need to bring their morning tea and in Terms 1 and 4, their sunhat.
- Class Visit 3: 1 week out from the start date. This will be a morning visit on any day that suits from 9.00am until 1.30pm. Children will need to bring their morning tea and lunch for this visit and in Terms 1 and 4, their sunhat.
Children can have more or less visits if required and this can be discussed with the teacher.
If you are not able to make a visit due to illness or change of circumstances, please either telephone the Office on 686 0082 or email the class Teacher. Arrangements can be made to visit on another day.
