Well here we are! We’ve all made it to the end of another term – well almost! Term Two has certainly been a busy one, full of magic and highlights.

Our Matariki night stands out for me as one of those magical events. Who can forget our wonderful Kapa Haka!

Highlights have been many: The Cross Country events, Jump Jam, The Wig Mufti Day, the Young Leaders Yr 8 trip to Christchurch to name a few. Wow, what a term!

Last week the highlights continued with our Yr 5-6 and Yr 7-8 teams competing at the annual Spelling Quiz. Our Yr 5-6 teams came 1st and 6th and the Yr 7-8 teams came 3rd and 10th. Our cover stars this week are our first place getters in the Yr 5-6 competition! Awesome effort to all of our teams!

It’s with sadness that we need to report to you that our Room 15 teacher, Natasha Mann will be leaving us at the end of Term 2. Natasha has won a new job at Barton Rural and while we’re very sad to see her go we are very happy for her. Barton Rural are very lucky to have her. All the best Tash J

Mel Heath will be taking over the Room 15 teacher role from the start of the new term.

Our first written school reports head home to our Yr 3-8 students on Friday. These will be handed to children on Friday afternoon, and are addressed to their parents and caregivers. Please keep an eye out in your child’s bag for the report.

If you haven’t already, please return your child’s record books back to school this week.

Thank you everyone for all of your support and help during the term. Have a restful and happy term break and we’ll see you all again on Monday 23rd July.

It was great to go along and support our Jump Jam teams last week. We had three teams competing Year 7-8 Gleniti Lightning; Year 4-6 Gleniti Rebels; and Year 1-4 Gleniti Rockers. For the record the Gleniti Rockers placed third which was a great achievement for our youngest “Jump Jammers”! The Gleniti Rebels made it to the finals in the evening and like all our teams, gave it their all. I was incredibly proud of the efforts of all of our teams. A huge thank you to all those who gave their time to support our students. Great effort by all!

Thank you also for your support last week during the Paid Union Meeting. It’s always a fine line when we ask families to support the teaching profession, while at the same time potentially disrupting the very people who support us. It’s certainly an important time for the teaching profession. We need to be encouraging more people into both the teaching and principal professions. Unfortunately the numbers of people heading into teacher training are well down, and at the same time teachers leaving or retiring from the profession are well up. Sadly the profession isn’t always viewed as being a viable option for our young adults. No doubt there will be more to be said about the current contract round. Thank you again for your on-going support.

Thanks for supporting our Wig/Hat Mufti day last week. We raised $549.00 for the Child Cancer Foundation. We’ve just put up on our Facebook page photos of the day!

First of all, thank you all for supporting our Matariki evening last Thursday night. We ran out of sausages on the BBQ which is always a good sign that there were heaps of people coming into the school! It’s always great to see the Gleniti School Community getting in and supporting our events .. which essentially are your events! We enjoy putting them on, and the excitement levels around the school on the day of our Matariki night were very high. Of course we were all celebrating Matariki together in a uniquely kiwi way!

Congratulations to our Kapa Haka group who played such an important role in the night. Great effort all round!

Congratulations also to our Cross Country Team who competed in the South Canterbury Cross Country event out at Waihi School last Thursday. For the record in the team event our Year 7 Team came 1st; our Year 8 and Year 5 Boys came 2nd; and our Year 7 Boys Team came 3rd. Wow! Great effort by everyone involved.

Today we see three of our Jump Jam teams away competing at the annual Jump Jam competition held at the Theatre Royal. Best of luck to our teams; Year 7-8 Gleniti Lightning; Year 4-6 Gleniti Rebels; and Year 1-4 Gleniti Rockers.

Congratulations to our Yr7&8 Basketballers. The Gleniti Supersonics beat Bluestone to finish 3rd in the year 7/8 boys ‘A’ grade winning 39-34. Liam James scored 22 points with Rowan Waller 7.

Well done to Liam, Rowan, Layton Koning, Jaemin An and Sunny Chen for making the South Canterbury U13 team this year. In the girls grade congratulations to Molly Fitzgerald for making the South Canterbury U13 A team and Sam Giddings, Mia Donaldson and Nadia van den Bosch for making the South Canterbury U13 B team.

Finally I hope everyone is excited about our Wig Mufti Day tomorrow. The School Council are running this mufti day to raise funds for the Child Cancer Society. If you can’t find a wig or a hat then normal mufti is fine. As usual a gold coin donation thanks J
