Newsletter, Number 09, 28th March, 2018

The school hosted its’ annual swimming sports on Thursday. Superbly organised by Mrs Parmenter, the sports went like clockwork and were greatly enjoyed by all. It’s always wonderful to see our students competing in a fair, caring and competitive environment. Great job Gleniti!  All the best to our swimmers who are competing in the South Canterbury Primary Swimming Sports tomorrow.

Just a reminder about our Spring Road crossing. All children are to cross at the correct places on Spring Road. The safest place to cross is on the top of the rise where there is an actual crossing. Please don’t encourage your children to cross the road directly opposite the school alleyway, that’s a recipe for an accident crossing there.

The Easter break is about to arrive. Please note that the school is closed on Good Friday (this Friday), Easter Monday and Easter Tuesday. We do get a few comments from time to time about being closed on Easter Tuesday, and a few questions about whether this is a new thing or not. It’s not a new thing, schools have been closed on Easter Tuesday for many, many years 😀

Enjoy the break, eat lots of chocolate, drive safely if you’re heading away and we’ll see you all again fit and well next Wednesday.

Gleniti School Newsletter – 21st March, 2018

Our cover stars this week are our Yr 66s at the Raincliff Camp. I had a great day with them last Thursday, exploring the Taxidermy shop and riding the Train in Pleasant Point. They then topped the day off with a swim in the Pleasant Point pool in the afternoon … mysteriously id left my togs at home  😬

Tomorrow finds many of us down at CBay competing in the Gleniti School Yr 5-8 Swimming Sports. I look forward to seeing you all down there, it’s certainly a full-on afternoon of swimming events. Please take time to read the swimming notice below.

This week is Book Week at Gleniti School. There have been a whole host of different events during the week. My favourite has been the Drop Everything and Read sessions that we’ve been running twice a day. Its allowed me time to pop into the classrooms and read a couple of my all-time favourite books to the students; Green Eggs and Ham by Dr. Seuss, and Curtis the Hip Hop Cat by Gini Wade. We will finish off the Book Week with a ͞”Come along dressed as your favourite book character” day on Friday.

I’m really looking forward to seeing all the amazing costumes.Congratulations to our Quick Ripp Rugby side who won the Boys Grade in the competition at Alpine Energy Stadium on the 7th March. Great effort team!

Finally, we have a number of children who are continually late for school. This is extremely disruptive to the teachers. It is important that all children are at school before the bell rings at 9am.  Any children who miss out on the beginning of the day also can miss important information.
