Newsletter 23 October 2019

Our cover stars this week are our Road Safety Patrollers practicing on our new Kea Crossing on Spring Road. As mentioned last week, the TDC recently installed the new crossing arms on the Spring Road rise. We are very keen to ensure that all children cross safely on Spring Road, whether it be coming to, or leaving school. With this in mind the best place, and only place to cross is at the crossing arms. Please support the safety of your children by ensuring they cross at this point.

These will be officially working very soon. Because the crossing means that we will now be stopping traffic, we now need to man the crossing with an adult. We will be able to arrange teachers in the afternoon, but in the morning we’d really appreciate some extra support. If you are able to help out on the crossing from 8:30-8:55am on any of the days during the week please contact me stevez@gleniti.school.nz or via the Facebook page if you are able to help out. The role isn’t an onerous one. The Road Safety children do all the hard work and are trained to make the decisions. But they do need support. Please contact us.

Welcome back everyone. I trust that you’ve had a wonderful break and that you’re all energised for the busy term ahead. As always, Term 4 is full of great events. Two to make special mention of here to begin with; The PTA will running their great Disco on Friday 15th November, and our Athletic Sports will be held on Tuesday 19th November (PP 21st).

Our cover stars this week are members of Learning Team 1 enjoying their hoola-hoops during Discovery today.

The Timaru District Council have been working closely with the school over the last couple of years formulating and implementing our school transport plan. As a result of this you will notice some changes on Spring Road. Spring Road is now officially a school zone area which is designed to slow traffic down. The TDC have also installed new crossing arms on the Spring Road rise. These will be officially working very soon. We are very keen to ensure that all children cross safely on Spring Road, whether it be coming to, or leaving school. With this in mind the best place, and only place to cross is at the crossing arms. Please support the safety of your children by ensuring they cross at this point.

And finally, I would just like to make mention of Carmen Tonks. Carmen has worked with us as a wonderful Teacher Aide over the last few years, but has now left us to join the Mobile School Dental Service. Thank you Carmen for everything that you have done for us and all the best in your new role.

Have a great term everyone!

Wow! We’ve made it all to the end of another term. What a busy, but successful term it has been.

On top of our normal classroom days we’ve managed to fit in; Gleniti’s Got Talent, The Gym Festival, The Flava Festival, the cultural exchange with Temuka, the Yr 5-6 Waimataitai exchange, Young Writers workshops, Artarama, Yr 7-8 ski/skate day, Current Events Quiz, Aoraki Maths, EPro Semi-finals, Netball, Hockey, Basketball, Rippa Rugby to Wellington and the Science Fair. Wow!

Thank you to you all for the great support that you have given the school throughout the term. No doubt Term 4 will also be full of highlights.

Term 4 begins on Monday 14th October.

Our final Footpath Frenzy for the year comes this Friday. Last week we got to walk with Silver Olympian Natalie Rooney. What a treat! This week we’ll be walking from the corner of Pages Road and Hunter Hills Drive. And to finish it all off with a bang we’d like to invite all of our grand parents to walk with us! Let’s see how many of the older generation that we can get along with us. We’ll be walking from 8:30am.

Our apologies and congratulations to Ben de Ruyter who won a Year 8 Individual Bronze Award in the SandfordSouth Canterbury Science and Technology Fair last week. Ben’s placing was missed off the Science and Technology Awards Website.

Congratulations to all those children who were awarded Principal Awards last Friday.

Nice work everyone!
