Our cover stars this week are our Gleniti Triathlon team who competed in the South Canterbury Primary Schools Triathlon last Thursday at CBay and Ashbury Park. Our team swam, ran and cycled around the course in some seriously hot conditions. They all did very well, with Caleb Turner producing the best result coming 5th in the Yr 5-6 race. Congratulations team!

Our cover could have been a whole host of things this week, as there’s so much going on at present at school. On Monday we held our swimming sports. Nic Parmenter once again organised a great event for the school and everything ran like clockwork.

On Monday evening the Ice Skate Tour crew arrived at our hall to put up the ice skating rink. Thanks to our PTA team we were able to do this in record time! All classes now get the opportunity to have a crack at ice skating throughout the week! The rink will be open after school and during the weekend, so if you’re child/ren come home buzzing from their experience at school then bring them back for another session!

And if you’re around on Sunday at 5:00pm then I’m sure the PTA would appreciate your help pulling the rink down again.

Yesterday we waved goodbye to our Yr 6 students as they climbed on their bus to head out to their annual Raincliff camp. They’ll be back on Friday, no doubt full of great experiences!

On Tuesday I spent the day with Lindsay Robertson. Lindsay will be the acting Principal here at Gleniti School during my sabbatical next term. Lindsay comes to us with plenty of experience in the world of running a school.

Lindsay is also on the hunt for some accommodation during next term. If you have a house that you wouldn’t mind being “house sat, Monday to Friday” for Term 2 then please let us know.

Next week it is the turn of our Yr 7-8 students to head away on camp. I’m looking forward to spending Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday up at Aoraki/Mt Cook with them all.

Congratulations to Luke Winter who has been crowned our Gleniti Senior Chess Champion. He bet Juhyeong Kim in an epic final!

Congratulations to those students who received Principal awards at our assembly on Friday.

Woah! It’s going to be a busy week coming up for everyone at Gleniti School.

Firstly best of luck to our Triathlon team who are off to compete in the South Canterbury Primary Schools Triathlon tomorrow. They’ll be swimming, running and biking in and around CBay and Ashbury park tomorrow morning. All the best team!

On Monday our Yr 5-8 children are all heading to CBay for our annual swimming sports. Please see details below. I’m certainly looking forward to this great event!

On Tuesday our Yr 6 students head off to the first of our school camps for the year. They are heading to Raincliff and will enjoy a programme packed full of activities.

Also on Tuesday the PTA will be transforming the hall into an Ice Skating rink. Yes, you heard that right! An Ice Skating rink. The PTA are teaming up with Ice Skate Tour to bring this unique experience to us all at Gleniti. The PTA are funding free lessons during the school day for our children. Your child will need to wear long pants and socks and bring a drink bottle. A note will come home from class teachers prior to your child/rens session. The rink will be open to the public in the evening and during the weekend. To celebrate this I’ve put their poster on the front cover this week … but with a slight twist … I’ve superimposed the faces of the children who have seen me recently for Principal stickers (they share their great work with me), to give the cover a truly Gleniti feeling!

Busy times all round!!

If I don’t see you at the Swimming sports, I’ll probably see you at the Ice Skating!

Congratulations to Reid Gamage who competed in a regional Karate competition on Saturday 2 March in Christchurch. Reid won a silver medal in kata and a gold medal in Kumite (sparring).

Our cover stars this week are raising money for Relay for Life. Madison Mackay, Asha Tyree, Keira Doran, Mia Cameron-Greig, Jessie McLeod, Emma Bassingthwaite, Kendall Broadhead, Nerissa Fitzgerald, Holly Turner and Yashvi Shah, have shown plenty of initiative in setting up an amazing array of goodies that they are raffling off to support the Cancer Society through Relay for Life. The girls are selling their raffle tickets for $2 all week long both before and after school. What a great example of Social Action! Please support our girls by buying a ticket or two!

Last Wednesday evening the Ministry of Education ran a community consultation meeting at the Southern Trust Events centre to discuss the proposed changes to Tomorrow’s Schools and how schools are governed, financed and

managed. If you would like to have your say then there is more information and a survey open to everyone online at https://conversation.education.govt.nz/conversations/tomorrows-schools-review/have-your-say-today/

Just a reminder that the next PTA meeting will be our AGM held on Monday 4th March at 7.30pm in the school staffroom. Looking forward to seeing you all there!

Congratulations to all the students who were awarded Principal Awards at our assembly last Friday.
