Gleniti Newsletter 20th February, 2019

I was very lucky to head down to the Caroline Bay Hall today with our International students for the annual Mayoral welcome. Today Renee Phimister and I took with us Dayeon, Chaebeen and Yeon. Dayeon stood up as our representative to speak to the large crowd of about 350 people. Great effort Dayeon!

Today and tomorrow are our Learning Teams 2,3 and 4 Meet the Teacher Parent Interviews. Today, for these classes, we close early at 2:00pm (Learning Team 1 , Rms, 1,2,3,4,17 are away swimming and will be back by 3:00pm as normal). Tomorrow, Thursday we close at the normal time of 3:00pm.

Our Board of Trustees met last Monday night. For many years the school has supported a Religious Education programme run by volunteers in Yr 5-6. After a long discussion the Board has decided to cease running this programme during class times. We would like to thank Chrissy Linton, Sue Sherwin and Rory Grant for volunteering to run this programme over the last few years. We certainly appreciate the time and effort you have put into teaching our students about your passion. We are currently working with Chrissy about the possibility of running a weekly lunchtime club that would be available for any student who would like to join.

The Board also discussed the School Transport Plan. At the end of last year we ran a consultation week where parents were able to respond to the display boards of Transport information! One question that we asked during the consultation was whether parents/whanau supported “compulsory” helmets for children riding bikes, scooters and skateboards to and from school. Overwhelmingly parents supported this, and the Board moved last Monday night to make this a requirement for all children travelling to and from school on a bike/scooter/skateboard to wear a safety helmet. Please support the school by actively and positively promoting this with your children.

Congratulations to all the students who were awarded Principal Awards at our assembly last Friday.
